On Wednesday, September 2, teachers and administrators at Wilbanks Middle School witnessed first-hand how the Education Exchange can bring the world into the classroom.

Ana Lucia Flefil, Assistant Executive Director for the Honduran Institute for Inter-American Culture (HIIC), spoke of her vision to connect HIIC students with students in the United States. Wilbanks Middle School Principal Marybeth Thomas indicated several teachers expressed interest in connecting with Ms. Flefil to discuss opportunities for both pupils and educators.

They see an opportunity for cultural exchange between the students as well as an opportunity to help students and teachers in Honduras. -Marybeth Thomas Thomas, Wilbanks Middle School Principal

HIIC’s main focus is teaching English to Honduran youth. Connecting Wilbanks Middle School with Honduras will provide much needed English speaking practice for the latter and cultural diversity exposure for local children.
